Calhoun Honey Locust

Zone 3-9

Calhoun is a grafted thornless honey locust cultivar. It produces large pods with a very high sugar content that is usually about 36% dry weight. Research was conducted by Auburn University in the 1940's on using honey locust as cattle food. Whitetail deer are especially fond of the pods as they give off a sweet scent as they ripen. Pods hang on the tree until late in the year.
