Allegheny Chinkapin


Native (Castanea pumila) Zone 6-9

Allegheny Chinkapin is a spreading shrub or small tree reaching a mature height of up to 20 feet. The leaves are similar to Chinese or American Chestnut only smaller. Allegheny Chinkapin nuts are produced singly in spiny burs about an inch in diameter. It performs best on well drained soils in full sunlight or partial shade. Whitetail deer and turkey are particularly fond of the nuts.

Because we are dealing with a living tree, the availability of certain sizes and quantities fluctuate on a seasonal basis. All orders are fully refundable if we do not have your tree in stock and a suitable replacement size is not available.
