American Persimmon

Native (Diospyros virginiana) Zone 4-9

The American Persimmon is a preferred food source for many different types of wildlife.  It is found growing throughout the much of the eastern U.S.  The persimmon is widely adapted to many different habitat types, doing equally well in wet and dry type sites.  Persimmons grow very upright and fruit drop is variable from tree to tree from September to November.  Trees are male and female with only the females producing fruit.  Plant several to insure you have both producers and adequate pollinators.  Fruit production should begin in 5-6 years.
