Maxine Mayhaw

Zone 8b – 10

Maxine is a wild selection found by James Eaves near DeRidder, Louisiana. It is red and large fruited (.8”). Maxine blooms very late, around March 20th. Tree shape is excellent, naturally forming an inverted umbrella shape. It is a consistent heavy producer with uniform ripening and very low shattering (fruit drop). 95% of the fruit can be harvested with one shaking. Maxine is very resistant to fire-blight. Many growers believe that Maxine is the best tree ever selected from the wild.
