Mexican Plum

Native (Prunus mexicana) Zone 5-9

Mexican Plum is a native species that is found in the southeast in spite of its name. It is a single trunked, non-suckering tree that will not form thickets. It grows 15-35 feet tall with fragrant showy flowers. The fruit turns yellow to mauve to purple as it ripens and makes excellent jelly. Excellent tree for wildlife as fruit drops in late summer and early fall when there is not much fruit available to whitetails. Easy tree to grow.
